Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are needed for the various programs the chapter is working on

• Social Dance - We need volunteers to help with the monthly social dances. Ideally we would like one volunteer to coordinate each dance, plus others to help make each dance an enjoyable experience.
• Competition - We will be holding three competitions per year, the first being September 29, 2007. We need people to help run the event and do various jobs. We need people to set up, tear down, deck captains, runners, registrars, and others to help the day of the competition. We will also need people to be on the competition committee to help plan the events.
• Youth Program - We are just starting a youth program. We are trying to get people into the schools to teach them to dance and to compete. We need volunteers who are qualified to teach, at a minimum, international waltz and rumba to prepare children from various schools to compete in our January competition. Professionals and qualified amateurs are needed for this effort. We also will need people to help plan our various events and fund raisers that will be needed for this program to work.
• National Ballroom Dance Week - We are looking for a volunteer to be chairperson if the National Ballroom Dance Week committee. This job would involve coordinating with the various dance studios and professional dance instructors to develop a program for the week, and to publicize the events. The individual would be required to attend the monthly board meeting to report on progress.
• Phone Committee - We can always use volunteers for the phone committee. The job of the phone committee is to call the membership to inform them of chapter events. The more people on the phone committee, the less calls an individual will need to make.
• Chapter Governance - We have a board of directors, each member of the board of directors is elected for a two-year term, and half of the board is elected each year. Each board member is term limited to two consecutive two year terms, after which they must take one year off before running again. The board is elected by a vote of the membership in the December general meeting. The board of directors makes all the decisions for the club and represent the membership. While any member can attend the board meetings, make and second motions, and participate in the discussion, only the board members can vote. We need people to attend the board meetings, and to put their hat in the ring for board membership in the December election. We need volunteers also to come to the board meetings to express their opinions.
• Fund Raising - We need someone to coordinate fund raising efforts amongst our various activities. We also need people to participate in whatever fund raising activities the chapter choose to participate in.
• Outreach - We need a set of volunteers who would be willing to go out into the public eye and perform dance demonstrations, possibly formation team work, in order to make the public aware of our organization and to promote ballroom dancing.
